Brolga Awards for NT Bird Specialists


Mike Ostwald took out this year's prestgious Brolga Award in the Interpretive Guides section. Mike has a growing and devoted following amongst both visitors to Mary River Park and the international bird watching fraternity. This award recognises his ability to pass on knowledge and information about the flora and fauna of the region in a meaningful way. A leading tour guide and operator in the Top End, Mike Ostwald enthrals his guests with the history of the Top End and the flora and fauna of the area. 

Owner of Mary River Park, Mike has been entertaining tourists with a truly Aussie experience for many years.

They are offered specialised Bird-watching tours, a 4WD Wetland Safari tour through the nearby Mary River Wetlands, a River Cruise on the Mary River with guaranteed sightings of fresh and saltwater crocodiles along with birds and other wildlife. The evenings culminate in a Sunset and Stargazing dinner on a remote sand island on the river.

  As an experienced bird specialist and guide, Mike is tireless in aiding his ornithologist guests to sight an impressive bounty of birds that may include such rare treats as the Black Bitten, Great Billed Herron and Rufous Owl.
