July: July has been a great month!! Especially
for bird watching. A lot of the rare and special birds to this
region have been
sited, the Great Billed Heron's have been abundant, as well
as the Backbitten
and the Gouldian Finches. Every morning in our bottom Billabong
close to the camp grounds is swamped by a large number of birds,
which includes Jabirus, Royal Spoonbills, Great Egrets, Whistling
ducks and many others. Our Resident White Morphed Goshawk
has been seen everywhere throughout the park, even putting
on performances
hunting the Little Corellas in the camp grounds. The Fishing
has been hot and cold, the start of the month saw a lot of
Barramundi being caught majority all above the legal limit, but
as the
month
progressed the cooler climate has made the fishing hard work!
Coming into August now, the birdlife is still abundant and
the fishing is starting to pick up once again!! Looking forward
for
a busy month!!! Yours Sincerely The Sarge
August: August
on the wildlife front has been pretty exciting. Birdlife is still
very abundant even more so with a lot of our migratory birds flying
back up North for the start of the build up season. For example:
Dollar birds, Magpie Goose and Sarus Cranes. Thousands of fruit bats
have moved back into the river system to line the walls of the river
banks, with a lot of the predatory birds hovering around the bats
in hope to pick off a couple. There has
also been a lot of excitement with our Northern Quols that were released
here at the end of last year. There have been a number of sightings
of little Quols believed to be babies, so fingers crossed the little
guys are on the comeback after been decimated by the cane toads.
The Fishing has still been a little slow but there has been some
large Barramundi caught all up around the 80cm mark, hoping for it
to pick up with the warmer months ahead.
